CICADAS
Every few summers, the peace of Wombolly is shattered with the massed, ear-spitting calls of cicadas. Various species crawl out of the ground, shed their brownish, shell-like bodies and, after drying off their wings, fly. They gather in the trees to suck the sap, mate, pee and call in a chorus that pulses up and down the valley.
