WELCOME SWALLOW (Hirundo neoxena)
These pretty little swallows arrive each Spring, swooping and diving around the house looking for a place to nest. A pair last year decided that the top of the light fitting on the balcony was a good spot and proceeded to build their nest. It took many weeks of carting mud and straw but finally it was finished. We're happy to report that four healthy chicks were the result of all this effort. All survived with some tireless feeding by mum and dad, and then, after a few family flying lessons, they were up and away! Only thing left was to clean up the carpet of bird droppings left behind. Worth it though!
